My Homemade Cake Adventure
Welcome to my blog! Today, I’m excited to share my journey of making a homemade cake. There’s something truly special about creating a cake from scratch – the aroma that fills the kitchen, the satisfaction of seeing it rise, and of course, the joy of tasting that first slice. Let’s dive into the process!
Ingredients
Before we get started, here’s a list of ingredients you’ll need:
- 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 ¼ cups unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, or line them with parchment paper.
Step 2: Prepare the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Step 3: Cream the Butter and Sugar
In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.
Step 4: Add the Eggs and Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract.
Step 5: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined – be careful not to overmix!
Step 6: Pour and Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 7: Cool the Cakes
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorating Your Cake
Here’s where you can get creative! I chose to frost my cake with a classic buttercream icing. You can add food coloring, sprinkles, fresh fruit, or even a drizzle of chocolate. The possibilities are endless.
